For the May 2019 Book Club selection, TransportiCA has chosen Cooler Smarter: Practical Steps for Low-Carbon Living, from Island Press. Commissioned by the Union of Concerned Scientists, Cooler Smarter is authored by Seth Shulman, Jeff Deyette, Brenda Ekwurzel, David Friedman, Margaret Mellon, John Rogers, and Suzanne Shaw (all pictured below).
With every month's selection, TransportiCA provides three questions, and if you send us all three correct responses, by the end of the month, and your name is drawn, you will win our prize. May’s winner receives, not only their own copy of Cooler Smarter, but a $25 Union of Concerned Scientists’ gift membership.
Contest questions for Cooler Smarter are:
1) Cooler Smarter resulted from a comprehensive study, conducted by the Union of Concerned Scientists. How long was this study?
2) Cooler Smarter was published at a time when the federal administration pursued science in major policy decisions. As the nation returns to an era (or error) of national decisions - not based on science, UCS - and several Cooler Smarter authors - published what landmark report about the abuse and misuse of science, in the prior Bush Adminiistration?
3) Now serving as Vice President of Consumer Reports, David Friendman is earning his Ph.D. at what tier-one reseach university? (Hint: if you're a loyal TransportiCA follower, you'll know immediately...)
Thank you for your interest in the Book Club, and best of luck with the contest!
No purchase is necessary, as questions are not taken directly from the publication, but from respective technical information, publicity, and/or the author's professional lives. To send in your response, submit via TransportiCA's "Contact Form" on the front-page (bottom left), sending your name, email address and answers. The deadline for submission is 23:59, Friday, 31 May 2019.
